On August 21, the kick-off meeting between Hailiang and team from the University of Science and Technology, Beijing's School of Materials Science and Engineering was conducted smoothly at the Hailiang Research Building. Dr. Sun Chenguang, the Human Resources Director of Hailiang, warmly welcomed the delegation. The team from University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB) had the opportunity to comprehensively learn about the products of Hailiang and visit the state-of-the-art production lines of precision components and the fifth-generation coil production line in Hailiang's Zhejiang region.
On August 22, the exchange meeting for the project between Hailiang and the Science and Technology Service Team of USTB's School of Materials Science and Engineering took place successfully at Hailiang Research Institute. Dr. Peng Long, Assistant Vice President of Hailiang Group and Head of the Research Institute, engaged in an in-depth dialogue with the students from University of Science and Technology Beijing .
Dr. Penglong extended a warm welcome to the delegation. He said Hailiang boasts 22 major production bases worldwide and sustains long-term collaborations with nearly ten thousand clients across 132 countries. It stands as the largest and most competitive global enterprise in the production and distribution of copper tubes and bars. In late 2021, Hailiang ventured into the realm of copper foil. Within a relatively short span of a year and a half, the Lanzhou copper foil project achieved several industry records, while the Indonesia copper foil project is already underway, swiftly seizing opportunities in the global new energy sector. Dr. Peng Long also highlighted the strong foundation of cooperation between the School of Materials Science and Engineering of USTB and Hailiang Group, where numerous outstanding graduates from the university have made significant contributions. This collaboration on Hailiang’s four major products signifies another stride in international cooperation. It is hoped that the combined expertise of both parties will effectively translate research outcomes into practical applications, thus facilitating the establishment of a more efficient industry-university-research model.
At the meeting, Dr. Tana, a lecturer at USTB's School of Materials Science and Engineering and a Ph.D. graduate from Central South University, presented the team's research goals, members, areas of study, and group assignments. She highlighted that in recent years, USTB has been encouraging students to engage in scientific service and internships to deepen their understanding of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. This initiative aims to nurture students' educational development, talents, and contributions to society. Dr. Tana also encouraged students to venture into frontline companies during their vacations to participate in scientific service and internships. The research topics conducted by the School of Materials Science and Engineering of USTB align with the leading brand Hailiang, and it is expected that their studies and research within the company will bolster the team's research efforts and further Hailiang's development.
According to the group assignments, Zhang Tengfei from Hailiang Research Institute, Dr. Cui Chao from Zhejiang Keyu Metal Materials Co., Ltd., Dr. Su Hao, Assistant General Manager of Hailiang's Zhejiang Region Aluminum Tube Company, and Ma Qibiao from Hailiang's Zhejiang Region Coil Business Unit, each provided detailed explanations of their respective areas of expertise, including patent research, and the production processes, research and development, and market aspects of copper rods, aluminum tubes, and copper tubes.
After gaining a comprehensive understanding of Hailiang's history and global reach, the delegation actively participated in the discussion, speaking up on professional queries and topics such as talent acquisition at Hailiang. The exchange meeting fostered a lively and relaxed atmosphere.
The event was attended by technical advisors from Hailiang Research Institute, Feng Jianping, and Zhao Longlong, Assistant Director of Hailiang Research Institute.
