Recently, Department of Science and Technology of Gansu Province announced the approval of the provincial-level science and technology programs for 2023. Among them, Gansu Hailiang New Energy Materials Co., Ltd. led the application for the "Key Technology and Industrialization of Mass Production of High-Strength and High-Toughness Copper Foil for Lithium Batteries" provincial science and technology project, and it was approved for funding. It also received the highest amount of special funds support in the same batch of projects.

The project, led by Gansu Hailiang New Materials, was jointly applied for by the State Key Laboratory of Nonferrous Metal Materials at Lanzhou University of Technology, Tsinghua University, Beijing Institute of Technology, and Zhejiang University. This project addresses the urgent demand for high-strength, high-toughness copper foil in the lithium battery industry. Through industrial production experiments, it focuses on controlling the electrodeposition process, optimizing electrolytes and additives, and developing high-density nanotwin copper foil. The aim is to produce advanced lithium battery copper foil with high strength, toughness, and excellent oxidation resistance for mass production and application.

Upon completion of the project, it is expected to add an annual output value of over one billion yuan, filling the gap in Gansu Province and Lanzhou New Area in the field of high-strength and high-toughness copper foil. It will also serve as a demonstration for the industrial transformation and upgrading, as well as the high-quality development of the manufacturing industry in Gansu Province.
