In order to establish a platform for communication and exchange among overseas prestigious universities' student associations and alumni organizations, and to further optimize Hailiang's talent structure by supporting the return and development of individuals who have studied abroad, the 2023 Elite Hailiang Journey, featuring the participation of leaders from Chinese overseas student organizations and alumni associations, was successfully held from August 22 to 25 as scheduled.
Over 30 leaders of nationwide student associations and university student organizations from renowned overseas universities such as Harvard, Oxford, and Stanford, as well as alumni association leaders, participated in the three-day event. Through industrial visits and face-to-face meetings with executives, they gained a comprehensive understanding of Hailiang's culture and history, reaching a series of consensuses on long-term cooperation and the promotion of overseas-educated talents returning to China for development.
Global Expansion to Build an International Enterprise
Hailiang Group's Zhejiang Production Base
Hailiang Group actively responded to the national "the Belt and Road" and implemented the "Sweet Potato Economy" theory proposed by General Secretary Xi Jinping during his time in Zhejiang, becoming one of the earlier private enterprises in Zhejiang to go global. In 2008, Hailiang became China's leading copper tube exporter, maintaining a leading export market share of 44% by 2022. In recent years, through mergers and acquisitions and domestic development, Hailiang has comprehensively initiated an international strategy. The group has a presence in 12 countries and regions, with 10 overseas production bases in Vietnam, Thailand, Germany, and other countries, establishing long-term and stable business relationships with nearly 10,000 customers in 132 countries or regions. Hailiang’s copper tube holds a global market share of 20%, with 70% in corrosion-resistant alloy tubes, effectively achieving global procurement, production, and sales.
In 2007, Hailiang proactively established a production base in Vietnam, greatly reducing international trade barriers, risks, and tax costs. Today, the Vietnam base has an annual production capacity of over 70,000 tons and has received various honors, such as "Excellent Enterprise" in the Pho Yen Province for multiple consecutive years. Singapore, serving as a gateway for intensive global resource elements, saw the establishment of a subsidiary in 2016 for the non-ferrous materials intelligent manufacturing sector, with an annual trade volume of approximately 1.5 billion dollars. In 2020, Hailiang established its international education headquarters in Singapore, acquiring the local leading English writing brand, currently serving over 3,000 students. In 2023, an investment of 860 million dollars was made to build a high-performance electrolytic copper foil project in Indonesia with an annual production capacity of 100,000 tons, committed to creating the largest copper foil manufacturer in Southeast Asia. On June 20, President Joko Widodo of Indonesia attended the project's groundbreaking ceremony and personally pressed the start button.
“The Belt and Road" International Talent Study in China Public Welfare Scholarship Project
While expanding its business globally, Hailiang Group actively fulfills its social responsibility by launching "the Belt and Road" International Talent Study in China Public Welfare Scholarship Project, which has been welcomed and supported by local Chinese schools. Shali, a Cambodian internet sensation who speaks 15 languages, was the first student recruited by Hailiang. Subsequently, more than ten international talents from Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, and Indonesia were selected. Through training, two international talents from Thailand and Laos were admitted to Peking University and Tsinghua University, sparking a wave of learning Chinese in the local communities.
Eager for Talents, Attracting International Talent
Hailiang values talents as its most cherished assets. The company continues to advance its talent-centric and technological innovation strategies, continually increasing its efforts to attract and retain talent, establishing a talent hub, and consistently making breakthroughs in talent development.
"Star Youth" Management Talent Hiring Ceremony
In 2000, Hailiang Group began to introduce professional managers, achieving significant leaps in corporate management levels, scale of development, and industry status, becoming a leader in the industry. In 2018, the company introduced three management talents, as highlighted in the headline "Hiring Management Talents Aged Around 30 with an Annual Salary of 5 Million," all of whom have become leaders in Hailiang's future business and technological innovation.
A large number of outstanding young individuals are leading the development of Hailiang. Among the members of the Board of Directors, more than one-third are from the 1980s and 1990s. The position of Joint President of the Group is held by three individuals from the 1980s and 1990s, two of whom are Ph.D. graduates who returned from overseas. Dr. Jin Feifei, a Ph.D. holder from Cambridge University and Acting President of Hailiang Group, attended the event and stated that talent has always been the most important and scarce strategic resource and core driver for Hailiang. Hailiang aspires to become an industry leader, and this heavily relies on the outstanding capabilities of the team. To maintain long-term, rapid development in the three major industries, a large number of young talents are required. Today, Hailiang's desire for talent is more urgent than ever before. Hailiang has never had so many development opportunities as it does today, waiting for talented individuals to seize and create great achievements together.
Currently, Hailiang Group boasts a total of 1,980 graduates from world-renowned universities, including 1,193 master's degree holders, 105 alumni from Peking University and Tsinghua University, and 95 individuals with doctoral degrees. Additionally, 245 professionals have returned from overseas studies, all of whom hold vital positions across various sectors within the group.
Hailiang consistently upholds the belief that "talent is the primary resource" and has established a series of long-term mechanisms and methods to attract, retain, and effectively utilize talent. These measures actively address the concerns of exceptional talents, providing support in terms of working conditions, research funding, team composition, healthcare, spousal employment, and children's education. Furthermore, Hailiang has constructed various research platforms, including national-level postdoctoral research workstations, expert workstations in Hangzhou and Shaoxing, provincial-level high-tech research and development centers, and corporate research institutes. These platforms empower outstanding talents to excel in their research work.
The recent event allowed international talents to experience firsthand Hailiang's commitment to attracting talent and the culture of respecting and valuing them. Through their interactions, more overseas professionals have become acquainted with Hailiang and are willing to join in building a brighter future together.
